From my new desk *

Hi. I spent yesterday planning the rest of the year for blossom creations. Having a baby in the middle of the year seemed like kind of a big interruption to things and I wondered how I'd go about getting back into it and moving forward with new products etc. Turns out once I sat down and wrote it all out, it's not as hard as I thought.

I've had a list of a million and one things I want to do building up for ages now. I've finally got a plan, an idea of what new products I'll bring out, when etc. I did all this a couple of months back (if I could be bothered looking back at old posts I'd probably find myself saying "I'm so excited about the new products I'm bringing out soon..."), but things sort of paused there for a while.

I'm back on track and now have a nice (and exciting) plan in place. Some things I'm bursting to tell you about but won't just yet - I have a habit of speaking too soon! But rest assured, after this little maternity break, there are some kickass things on the horizon for the rest of 09.

I'd love to know what you'd like to see in terms of new products, designs, ideas etc. What can we do that you'd love? Or what do we already do that maybe we shouldn't be? Let me know your suggestions. I'll pick my favourite and that person will be the recipient of the first AWESOME new product I've got arriving soon (bursting to tell you..). I'll announce the "winner" (it's not a competition but you know...) when I make the big product announcement. How does that sound?

Have a great weekend (or long weekend if you're in Aus.).

x

*I put this photo up on Flickr last week but didn't have any new ones to put here so have used it again (in case you noticed...). Been putting pics up here and there on Flickr lately, also been brushing up my Photoshop skills with lots of tutorials etc. so have been putting some of my efforts up there too.

More from the vault...

A while ago, I was interested by all of the motivational/inspirational posters doing the rounds like these, these, these, these, and these. Also all of the great posters on the poster list (some I just had to have!). So I decided to create my own version one afternoon.

Sometimes you need a little reminder of these things...

kia hing fay

It's time to tell you about something I hinted at here. I appliqued this gorgeous little onesie with the help of a fantastic applique kit from kia hing fay.

The super talented Kia has added to her range of adorable hand-crocheted toys to include these beautiful applique kits. All of the illustrations and designs are Kia's originals, there are 4 to choose from (representing the 4 seasons), and they can be put on to anything you like!

I'd never appliqued anything in my life so I actually had to use the instructions and found it so easy and straightforward (and fun). And when I was finished I felt very clever indeed :)

Kia never fails to impress me not only with her talent but her amazing ability to pick things up for herself. She's taught herself how to use different design software and has designed her own website - something I had to study for years to learn! She's amazing.

She's still setting up her online shop but is taking orders through the contact page on her site. If you're lucky enough to live in Brisbane, they're available exclusively at Brisbane's loveliest gift shop - Coming Up Roses (118 Bilyana St Balmoral).

Don't know about you but I'm going to do one of each - I'm in love!

more baby sewing...

Yes, yes, more baby stuff. But it's not for my baby this time!

I made these for a friend who is due to have her baby boy 2 weeks before me. Bib pattern was from here. Hat pattern from this project. Applique I just made up!

The bib made me realise how much I struggle with DIY binding... I had 2 attempts (I totally ruined the first one). I'm sure there's an easier way, I tend to go at things full steam ahead and only learn how to do it properly by not doing it properly the first time!

Patterns

As promised a few posts ago, I'll be going through my files to show you bits and pieces I've done in the past that haven't made it onto anything yet.

Here are a few patterns I've done:I love Chinese/Japanese floating garden prints, this is my own interpretation.
Did I ever show you this one? Not sure what, how or why but looking at it now reminds me of chocolate and caramel. Now I really need a Caramello Koala. Or some Fantails... Damn. Then there's the Grevillea I told you about here. And this one, which has a bit of a snowflake-like quality to it in a strange way, don't you think?

What would you use them for? Fabric? Stationery? Not sure what I'll do but here they are!

Have a good weekend.

Daily Imprint

Good golly, I’d forgotten about this! Head over to Daily Imprint for an interview I did with Natalie a little while ago.

I love Natalie’s blog (and job, and life…), so I’m super happy to be featured there today.

Thanks Natalie!

Finally! Hello.

Wow, what a busy few weeks. I had planned on being back online by last week – that was wishful thinking! We’ve only just got our internet connected again (why are all major telecommunications companies so reliably unreliable?!).

We successfully moved house, what a mammoth task that was. But we’re happy to be in a bigger, nicer, brighter, newer place and are starting to settle in.

We managed to squeeze in all the things I mentioned in the last post (moving, cleaning, unpacking, a wedding, antenatal classes etc. etc.) and can finally slow down a bit and get back to normal.

A highlight of the last couple of weeks for me was on Sunday when some friends threw me a baby shower. We had such a good morning, everyone bought lovely food (check out the divine white/blue cupcakes Kylie made below), thanks to Kia we had a tea buffet (seriously – so many types of tea!), and the baby and I got waaaay spoilt with beautiful presents.

Handmade by Sarah from this book (OMG must get!).

Handmade by Momo – adorable!

So will spend the rest of the week settling in to my new office and getting a little bit of business done (that’s right, I have a business, don’t I…?!)

:)

On the move...

Hi there. Been busy packing, wrapping, labelling ALL weekend. And that was just my office. And I'm still not done in here. Oh dear. We have 2 weeks to pack, clean this place and the next place and move in. And I think between work, antinatal classes (x 3), a wedding, and everything else that's going on (and the fact I now move at a snail's pace!) - I'm going to need every bit of that 2 weeks!

So I'm off. Will see you back here around the week of the 11th.

In the archives...

As things start to wind down here I'm guessing I'll have less and less work related news/pictures to show you so I thought I'd start going through my files and share with you some designs I've done in the past. I've got files full of designs that haven't seen the light of day yet, waiting for the right surface to appear on.

This is one of them - two bunnies all cosy in their home. Not sure why I did this one - I did a similar illustration with an owl (below). They'd probably make nice prints/posters or something...

Will see what becomes of them one day.
